Brunswick is a lovely city for people who want to stay fit. First, there’s the Brunswick City Baths on Dawson Street. They originally opened in 1914, but recently went through extensive renovations. The baths reopened with remodeled indoor and outdoor heated pools, fitness program rooms, a steam room and sauna, a spa, and a gymnasium – making this a perfect location for fitness enthusiasts. Then, there are the many areas of open space, including the Alex Gillon Oval, Raeburn Reserve, Brunswick Park, Clifton Park and Gilpin Park, that are prime destinations for exercising outdoors. Smaller reserves, also known as ‘pocket parks’, include Temple Park, Warr Park and Randazzo Park.

Not sure which park you should hit up for your next workout adventure? Read on for a list of our favourite parks in Brunswick.

Gilpin Park

Gilpin Park, Brunswick is definitely one of our clients’ favourite spots. It offers lots of greenery and is crisscrossed with pathways that are great for dog-walking or a cool-down after a workout. If you like taking your dog on your workout jaunts, there’s even a dog park in the southwest area of the park. There are also plenty of trees (all native species) to provide shady areas so you won’t get overheated during your workout. With tons of room to move about, you can easily participate in a group workout session or a personal training session with us.

Warr Park

Located on De Carle Street, Warr Park, Brunswick is a quieter option for your outdoor workouts (which is great if you prefer a more zen routine). However, this heritage park recently refurbished its playground and nature play area, so if you do like a little more hustle and bustle, there are frequently more families with kids roaming about that area. Over the last several years, the park has also been updated with extensive trees and shrubs that were planted throughout the area. Many locals also favour Warr Park since it’s close to popular Sydney Road restaurants and shops – handy if you need a hearty meal to refuel after your workout!

Temple Park

Temple Park, Brunswick is one of our fave locations for group workout sessions because there are plenty of open grass areas to utilise. Plus, the walkways are lined with stately elm trees, which provide much-needed shade for you on those warmer workout days. Although this is one of the smaller parks in Brunswick, it’s still a great option for basic fitness activities, including bodyweights and strength training exercises.

Clifton Park

This park is an important recreation area in Brunswick that comes equipped with a synthetic soccer pitch, skate park, pavilion and half basketball court. Fitness lovers can also take advantage of the pedestrian paths for walking or jogging (or warm-ups and cool-downs). Clifton Park also has plenty of grassy areas where you can knock out a workout. But you should keep in mind that Clifton Park might not be the best option on a really warm day – there aren’t a lot of shady areas that can keep you cool.

If you think an outdoor workout is just what you need to switch up your fitness routine, there are tons of options for making that happen. But let’s say you’re in the mood for just getting your body moving but not sticking to a specific fitness routine. Brunswick also offers lots of these types of opportunities for physical activity too. You can get some laps in at the Brunswick City Baths (perfect for cooling off during the warmer months) like we mentioned above, or volunteer to help out at the CERES Community Environment Park – you can actually burn quite a few calories planting crops! For the more adventurous souls out there, head to Northside Boulders for an afternoon of rock climbing. Even just taking a walking tour of the city will help you fit some activity in without causing you to feel the pressure of completing a full-on workout.

Have no idea where to start when it comes to working out? You could benefit from the expertise of a personal trainer. That’s why we offer our 14-day free trial, which allows you to test out private personal training, outdoor group sessions or sports conditioning options. Because Saint Fitness is a mobile personal training operation, we can come meet you in an area of Melbourne that you like the most. To make things even more fun, consider picking a neighbourhood or area of Melbourne that you haven’t really explored before. It can make exercising a little more exciting for you if you’re checking out a part of the city that’s new to you.

Wherever you decide to exercise, we highly recommend outdoor workouts. They can be both helpful to your body (by permitting your system to exercise in a natural environment) and your mind (by becoming one with nature).
